On November 7, I made a bouquet!

Today I cut what probably will be the last of the zinnias from my garden. I’ve so enjoyed these flowers with their bright blooms and butterfly magnetism and I’ve vowed to have them in my garden every year from now on. The colors are so vivid, the camera doesn’t capture it well.

Having wanted to paint these beauties for so long, I finally had some time and set out to do it in pastels. The results were less than satisfying, in part because I did not have pastel paper to use and because it’s been so long since I used pastels that I’m quite rusty. If anything this month-long challenge has shown me where I need much more practice. I like the real bouquet much more than the one I made.

I have managed to make something every day for a week, something that has made me proud and surprised.

This is also EDM #76 Draw some flowers.

  1. Perhaps you like the real bouquet better but let's face it, it's hard to beat God's work! You did a great job and you'll have the memory of the real flowers everytime you look at this picture. Keep trying as you really are doing a good job. No one is ever happy completely with their work.

  2. You're right, Freebird, it's impossible to make anything better than God. I guess like most other artists I am very critical of my work. I know it takes lots more practice than I've had to be as good as I want to be (much like my walk with the Father) but I will keep trying. That's one of the reasons for this challenge. As I read on someone else's blog, when you must make something every day, you can't wait until the "right moment" or the "motivation" to do it and you learn to create anyway. (Well, she said it better:o) I'll have to go back and find that blog.) And you have to be willing to make "bad art" and somewhere along the way, something will turn out well.

  3. I love the composition, the colors, and the bottle. Every picture we draw we learn something and part of us is satisfied for a while (that art part).
